Zurich North America is currently looking for an AVP, Data Analytics Innovation Lead based out of our North American Headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois. While this position will be based out of our Schaumburg Headquarters, we are offering the flexibility to work both in the office and remotely. You will collaborate with your manager to set a schedule that supports you, our customers, and the team.

In this new, critical role, the Data Analytics Innovation Lead needs to drive technical capability development and execution in our Analytical Platforms space. The Data Analytics Innovation Lead will be the key contributor to the execution of Data Analytics platform strategy for the Data Science, Data Governance, and Data Engineering teams and will build the architecture, systems, and technologies required to have a best-in-class data ecosystem.

This role will work on next generation data platform services and processes that support Business Units and Share Service Units. The ideal candidate will have experience prototyping cloud native data analytics tools and architecting as well as designing solutions for complex data science projects.

The Data Analytics Innovation Lead will be responsible for the following:

  • Design and build scalable infrastructure and platform to ingest, store and process very large amounts of data (structured, semi-structured and unstructured), including streaming and real-time into the cloud-based Data Lake
  • Work closely with Business Unit analysts to build self-service experiences in our data democratization platform
  • Keep current on latest developments in field of AI, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, NLP, Image processing and by reading relevant papers/ journals and applying the new learnings to create innovative data and analytics solutions
  • Take ownership of operationalization of Machine learning processes while designing solutions to optimize data pipelines, model deployment, and model monitoring
  • Innovate different ways of combining data sets from various sources to augment our analytical literacy
  • Conduct POCs, Pilots on re-usable, scalable data processing, curation, and consumption frameworks to eliminate point solutions
  • Evaluate, analyze, and optimize system resources related to large scale data processing, image processing, computer vision and deep learning
  • Work closely with the IT and the platform team to deliver technical solutions. This includes end to end data orchestration, data layering, data governance, metadata management and data cataloging
  • Partner with data science, actuarial science, underwriting, claims and various business groups on deep rooted data analysis including propensity scores, catastrophic modeling, time-series analysis, and forecasting

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics/Statistics and 7 or more years of experience
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 7 or more years of experience
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 9 or more years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong software standards and engineering practices working within a shared codebase
  • Knowledge of statistical theory, including Generalized Linear Models and their applications in insurance
  • Master’s Degree in Statistics or a field with a statistical or quantitative background with 8 or more years of predictive analytics experience
  • Experience in ETL/ELT and data wrangling using tools (Informatica, Data Factory, Talend etc.) and languages such as Python, R, Scala, Java, SQL, and SAS
  • Experience with various Microsoft Azure services (including Data Lake, Synapse, Data bricks, Data factory, Cosmos DB, Power Platform, Azure ML, Power Automate, Power BI etc.)
  • Strong communication skills with ability to effectively explain complex material
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment as a technical lead.
