  • 3+ Years of SQL experience
  • 2+ Years of data visualization building experience
  • 1+ Years of programmatic preparation of data for direct use in visualization tools like Tableau/AWS QuickSight
  • 1+ Years of ETL Management/Data Pipeline experience

Job summary
The AWS People Analytics team is looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) with end-to-end experience related to data problems and visualizations. They own BI systems, so should have a good working knowledge of engineering the back-end data framework, building visualizations on the front end, and working directly with business owners to help interpret these insights.

In this role, you will work directly with Data Engineers/Scientists, Product/Program managers and HR Business Partners to build products which will help shape the way these systems are designed, operate, and how they are used.

In addition, you will have a strong sense of product ownership, alongside inclinations to collaborate with your team will ensure that the products you build will move the needle for ever-so-important people management decisions across AWS.

Key job responsibilities

  • Work backwards from the key AWS business problems to build data visualizations of people metrics
  • Partner with product managers to design the ideal user experience from question to data discovery to insight to action.
  • Help us move from merely reporting the news to automating the action plan
  • Eliminate the need for data pull requests by developing datasets, dashboards and reports using AWS technology

This role can be based within 100 miles of any US AWS Corporate location (i.e. Seattle, WA, Arlington, VA, Herndon, VA, New York, NY, Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, Dallas, TX, Austin, TX, Cupertino, CA, Palo Alto, CA, etc).

About the team
The AWS People Analytics organization is a critical piece of the AWS business flywheel. We are the curators of people data for the industry leaders in cloud computing and are responsible for providing the right metrics and insights to help the business develop its employees and scale its workforce.

With AWS being a pioneer in the cloud computing industry, we get to answer challenging questions that have never been encountered before. The work we do enables leaders to make industry-shaking decisions based upon insights we must generate. We also have a great responsibility to treat this data as sacred and be best in class with our data security principles.

  • Master’s Degree in technical or engineering field
  • Expert-level knowledge of SQL
  • Working knowledge of AWS tech stack. Glue, Redshift, S3, Quicksight, and Sagemaker will be used regularly in this role
  • Experience as a leader/mentor of data analytics resources
  • Experience working directly with business owners to field requirements and interpret results
  • Experience testing causal arguments against historical datasets
  • Experience documenting technical/data systems for technical and business leaders
  • Experience working with data scientists on research and machine learning problems

The base pay range for this position is $99k – $185k yearly. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on payment and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
