The Role

Model-based Tool and Process Development Engineer is responsible for creating a core set of modeling tools that enables development and validation of vehicle features for embedded systems. This person works in tandem with our General Motors IT teams to deploy tooling solutions to a global user community. The position requires an individual that has a passion for tool development, proficient knowledge of industry standard modeling tools and can adapt to a wide variety of technical and customer needs.

Responsibilities

• Create, maintain and improve tools for model development, automatic code generation, model-based testing and system simulation
• Deploy tools that support a global engineering community
• Engage with IT to ensure solutions are robust and meet IT standards
• Develop and maintain materials to support the proper use of tools (i.e. process documentation, training materials, work instructions, etc.)
• Provide support to users in the engineering community to troubleshoot tool issues
• Participate in the established forums for tool development using Agile software methodologies

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, or Computer Science
• 2+ years of professional work experience
• Experience with Model-Based Design
• Knowledgeable of MIL, SIL and HIL based validation techniques
  
• Experience with Matlab, Simulink and Stateflow simulation tools
  
• Demonstrated ability working with C/C++ high level languages
• Knowledgeable about code-based and model-based testing tools
• Proficient at debugging and resolving tools & process issues
• Enjoys working with internal customers to solve tooling issues and problems

Desired Skills

• Master’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science
• 5+ years of professional work experience
• Industry experience with embedded controls and software
• Experience with using Agile software development methods and processes
• Experience with software design based on AUTOSAR standards
• Familiarity with Perl scripting language and other scripting languages
• Experience with automated software build processes
• Experience with gcc compilers and gdb debuggers
• Experience with simulation tools such as AMESim, GT-Power and Sabre
