Alpha Gen Technology helps BlackRock investment teams deliver market leading performance (alpha) to their clients. We partner with investment researchers to unlock data & develop predictive signals and strategies that are traded on BlackRock hedge funds and other active portfolios. We are building a cloud scale data analytics platform to accelerate onboarding of all types of data and drive next-generation analytics of our investment teams. The team has a global footprint with presence across Singapore, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Budapest, New York, London and San Francisco. Our investment partners include Systematic & Fundamental teams, Multi-Asset Strategies, Sustainability Strategies, and the Risk & Trading/Liquidity team. The team is part of broader BlackRock – s Aladdin Product Group (APG). Aladdin is an investment platform as a service that is used to handle more than $15 trillion by clients of Aladdin.
Your role and impact:
As the Core Platform Engineer, you will work closely with Quant and Platform engineers to develop an industry leading data platform that is used for quantitative research as well as in production system to drive daily investment processes. We are involved in the full lifecycle of the Alpha Gen and Data platform including design, architecture, development, implementation, tuning, production support and maintenance.
Your responsibilities: You will be building a groundbreaking, high quality data analytics platform on cloud! It involves:

Developing frameworks and services for our data platform

Craft and build large scale data acquisition, ingestion, storage and distribution systems

Support of production data pipelines

Collaborate with engineers and partners across time-zones in a distributed team

Exploration, identification and prototype new tools & technologies that address real problems and help accelerate platform buildout.

Partnering with other engineering teams at BlackRock to integrate with Aladdin
You have: We value post-graduate degree holders, but we also like individuals with equivalent professional experience. So, if you have a good mix of the skills below we would love to hear from you!

A solid understanding of cloud data platforms/services such as Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Databricks etc..

High level of proficiency with min 4+ years of exposure in Python and SQL, knowledge of Java, Scala and distributed technologies such as Spark and Kubernetes is a plus.

Desire to build deep expertise in cloud native technologies and design of applications that are deployed to cloud infrastructure.

An engineering mind set that focuses on building high quality maintainable software. This includes practices such as agile, test automation, CI/CD etc.

Ability to work in a collaborative setting and effectively communicate technical concepts to broad audience.

Project and people management experience a plus.

A genuine curiosity and appetite to learn: equities, fixed income, derivatives, hedge funds or investment risk

Our hybrid work model
