Spotify is looking for a Director of Data Science to join the Ads mission (“Amplify”), responsible for development of all advertising technology and products at Spotify.
We are looking for an experienced Data Science leader to join the band and drive the ads products and modeling forward, while helping build a data driven culture.
The Amplify team is at the center of Spotify’s long term growth and revenue strategy. We work on the entire Ads technology and product stack, including delivery, targeting, measurement, auctions, personalization, insights, buying interfaces, formats, advertiser growth, as well as associated privacy and transparency for our users. We prioritize long term value and impact, and regularly deliver significant improvements to our revenue.
The team you will lead will be composed of data scientists, and will partner with our engineering, product, and design teams to generate ideas and plans, and develop tools and methodologies, run experiments and AB tests, analyze data for growth, and inform decisions we make with just the right amount of metrics and data.
What you’ll do
- Lead a team of data scientists, setting focus, strategy and priorities for involvement in a large product area.
- Have people management responsibilities for a team of 25+ data scientists. Support, develop and grow a healthy analytics organization. Be responsible for hiring and headcount planning.
- Collaborate with product, engineering and other functional experts to shape a shared, data-driven strategic vision for Ads across the company.
- Deeply understand the Ads ecosystem and define and analyze metrics that evaluate our trajectory and inform the success of our products.
- Communicate insights and recommendations to key product decision makers at the Director, VP and Executive levels.
- Drive creation of analytics tools and data products. Automate and scale existing analysis methods. Institute state of the art approaches on modeling and analysis frameworks.
- Establish quality standards for the work your team delivers and optimize for efficient and speedy, careful execution.
- Manage relationships with partners globally, with occasional traveling within and outside of the USA
Who you are
- You have experience in an analytical role in a technology company.
- BS or higher degree in statistics, mathematics, machine learning, computer science, or similar discipline.
- You have demonstrated proven experience as people-manager for a data science organization.
- You have demonstrated ability as a leader of data driven culture in your organization.
- You have the technical competence and leadership skills to coach team members in appropriate methodologies, communication style, and technical solutions needed.
- You are capable of taking on ambiguous problem spaces and challenges. You can help product managers with defining the questions they want answered, specifying methodology and timelines for their requests.
- You are pragmatic and can make tough decisions quickly. You are capable of saying no if needed.
- Past experience in ad tech is a plus, but not required.
