The Opportunity:

We are looking for an IT Data Management – Journey – BI Analyst that is responsible for the design, documentation, development, modification, testing, installation, implementation, maintenance, and support of new or existing application software for the Juvenile Rehabilitation team. You will be applying analytical processes to the planning, design and implementation of complex analytic data products to meet the business requirements of customers within and outside DCYF. This includes the work of translating business needs to technical requirements.

This position will serve as the designated technical resource on the BI Analytics team for specific assigned dashboard types, as well as serve as the primary analyst in the area of Juvenile Rehabilitation (JR), and works in collaboration with other OIAA staff on other OIAA teams to provide analytics support for Juvenile Rehabilitation as well as other subject areas that touches upon JR. The analyst’s work will contribute towards larger strategies to ensure the agency can meet its outcome goals for children, youth, and families.

Some of what you will get to do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain complex BI analytic data solutions systems and business intelligence solutions for Juvenile Rehabilitation data.
  • Develop a programmatic understanding of Washington’s Juvenile Rehabilitation business processes in order to effectively serve the business customers.
  • Work closely with the program staff across OIAA to ensure solutions meet the business needs of DCYF’s implementation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex data related issues
  • Provide expertise on relevant data as well as present case outcomes.
  • Serve as a resource for designated program Evaluators (internal and/or external to DCYF) as to analytic data used in BI analytic products developed.
  • Analyze data, build data sets, and create data visualizations for presentation to the relevant primary business team, as well as internal stakeholders and external partners relevant to the program.
  • Contribute to presentations by the identified primary business partners and/or program Evaluators that they use for presenting to external stakeholders, DCYF staff, and public groups as necessary and directed.
  • Work collaboratively with OIAA Product Team and business (program) customers within DCYF to conduct requirements gathering sessions.
  • Provide technical consultation to the customer on potential analytic and dashboard solutions that can meet their need identifying the pros and cons of each solution.
  • Write, update, and maintain complex SQL queries and stored procedures to produce complex automated data products and dashboards.
  • Design dashboard layout(s), define parameters that allow users to build their own custom report, and develop data reporting systems using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, R (Markdown, Shiny), Python.
  • Debug and maintain code for existing analytic products; which can involve reverse engineering of existing SQL code as needed.
  • Participate and engage in peer code reviews in order to ensure data integrity/quality of the analytics team.


Required Qualifications:

At least three years of recent experience developing analytic data solutions using a Business Intelligence reporting tool preferably SQL Server Reporting Services, including Visual Studio and SQL Server Management Studio, and implementing Report Models.

AND

At least four years of IT experience such as consulting, analyzing, designing, coding and/or maintaining technical data products (i.e. reports/dashboards), and providing technical support.

In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have the following:

  • At least three years of recent experience working with relational databases. SQL server preferable.
  • At least two years of recent experience working with star schema Data Warehouse databases.
  • At least three years of experience writing T-SQL.

Additional Desired Skills

  • Experience using a source code versioning management tool.
  • Good communication skills both orally and written.
  • Ability to communicate from a technical and business perspective.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated and verifiable customer service skills.
