General Description

Performs advanced data analysis and data research work. Work involves conducting detailed analysis of and extensive research on data, providing results, and monitoring and implementing data quality. Works as a Business Intelligence Subject matter expert for TxDOTโ€™s divisions and districts in building efficient and streamlined solutions. May serve as a Lead Worker. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.


Duties

The essential duties for this job include:

  • Accesses information from business organization cross-sections to make good business decisions and provide excellent customer service.
  • Assists in the preparation of management reports defining and evaluating problems and recommending solutions, and similar products for executive-level and external audiences.
  • Assists with analysis of policy issues; develops assessments of potential impacts, cost/benefit analyses, and recommended policy options for the Commission, Administration, or legislative committees.
  • Analyzes data trends and prepares forecasts and projections.
  • Uses established modeling and evaluation processes (creates new ones and/or improves current where applicable) to determine the effectiveness of current activities and identify potential problem areas.
  • Generates routine and ad hoc reports and updates files.
  • Consults with internal and external customers to identify user needs.
  • Identifies and interprets data patterns and trends and assesses data quality.
  • Prepares concise, comprehensive technical reports to present and interpret data, identify alternatives, and make and justify recommendations on data revisions.
  • Drives the selection of data management tools, and the development of standards, usage guidelines, and procedures for those tools.
  • Performs quality assurance and serves as a subject matter expert on data integrity, extraction, and compilation.
  • May serve as Project Leader or Lead Worker.
  • Collaborates with data modelers and data integration architects/developers to establish end-to-end data and information delivery architecture that ensures enterprise governance alignment
  • Responds to incoming requests from business areas to design, build, maintain or repair reports and applications.
  • Serves as a liaison and division contact in area of expertise.
  • Compiles, reviews, and analyzes qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Prepares data visualizations and/or reports that effectively convey measure goals, and indicate areas for further interrogation.
  • Reviews industry developments and makes recommendations for possible agency systems.
  • May serve as a lead worker by serving as a resource for complex questions; presenting workflow and operational updates to the supervisor/manager; providing input on team membersโ€™ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operations coverage.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading

Education

This job requires the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Business Analytics, Computer Information Systems or related field

Work Experience

This job requires the following:

  • 4 years in data analysis, research, data management, program management, strategic planning or related experience
  • (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)
  • No supervisory experience required.
  • Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis OR related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
