Summary
Develops and presents all short- and long-term energy and peak demand forecasts, risk assessments, and load analysis studies and regulatory filings. Performs the analysis and reporting of current sales and peak demand levels relative to the forecasts. Oversees the work of lower level energy forecasting analysts. Participates in energy forecasting, risk assessment, and load analysis efforts to ensure accurate and effective energy forecasting and risk assessment for Xcel Energy’s utility services. Expected to take leading role in improving forecasting team’s technical resources.

Essential Responsibilities

• Prepare and guide other analysts in the preparation of all major energy forecasting, risk assessment, and load analysis responsibilities. Assume lead responsibility for forecasting, risk assessment, and load analysis for Xcel. Appear as an expert witness for the Company.
• Prepare for presentation to management and regulatory proceedings, budget customer, sales, and peak demand forecasting and reporting to ensure that the information provided is accurate and timely. Work with Xcel business units to ensure their forecasting, risk assessment, and load analysis needs are met and accurate information is provided.
• Prepare for presentation to management and regulatory proceedings, long-term forecasts and risk assessment to provide accurate forecasts and avoid excess capacity, and to quantify forecast risk.
• Participate in the IRP-related energy forecasting, risk assessment, and load analysis process to provide required technical information and to establish good working relations with regulators.
• Conduct peak demand forecasting to provide system operations (power supply and interruptible load management) with timely and accurate peak load forecasts.
• Work with the Manager of Energy Forecasting and Xcel Energy?s business units to ensure accurate forecasting, risk assessment, and load analysis in a regulated environment.

Required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or related technical or quantitative field or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge (6 years of related experience in addition to the required 5 years may substitute for the degree).
• 5 to 8 years experience in utility energy forecasting.
• Advanced degree in the above areas is desirable.
• Familiarity with SQL or related database management languages
• Familiarity with at least one scripting language (Python, R or SAS preferred)

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $90,000 to $127,333 per year
