Position Summary
This role will be responsible for developing and administering sales compensation plans that align to company objectives and strategy. This includes creating and maintaining best-practice policies, processes, tools, reports, metrics and documentation. Additionally, this role will serve as a subject matter expert of the Varicent technology. You will be involved in the design, testing and implementation of various flexible and scalable commission payment models.
Major Responsibilities
Consultation to HR Business Partners and Corporate/Field Operations:
- Provide guidance to HR Managers and operations managers regarding commissions/incentives for associates.
- Providing training on sales compensation philosophy, practices and systems.
- Actively participate in HR meetings and offer compensation support when appropriate.
- Working with HR leadership to resolve issues.
- Participate in and provide compensation advice and recommendations to support acquisitions or new implementations
Sales Compensation System SME
- Serves as the business owner for SPM tool to leverage system capabilities, identify efficiencies and maximize features to improve the associate experience and maximize plan effectiveness
- Design, test, and implement various flexible and scalable commission payment models
- Create standardized dashboards focused on the sales associate, management, and plan administrators
- Test new functionality and product capabilities
- Provide support when needed to ensure that compensation systems meet business needs, function properly, and are user-friendly.
- Keep informed of any changes to ensure that system technology is updated.
Compensation Analysis
- Identify trends, opportunities, and compliance with policies.
- Create a reporting suite to measure plan effectiveness, analytics, contests, SPIFFs, documentation compliance
- Develop recommendations based on analysis to improve performance, maintain compliance, and motivate workforce.
- Participating in enterprise-wide projects that impact the: valuation of positions, associates’ compensation, and organizational hierarchy.
Lead compensation processes and/or projects to include one or more of the following:
- Quarterly Varicent system functionality and update report out.
- Semi-Annual plan effectiveness reporting
- Continue to build out the variable pay plan library and blueprint from the sales org down to the job level.
- Annual review of compensation incentive plans to ensure that plans are up to date, in compliance, and include all applicable positions covered by the plan.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or Human Resources. If no degree must have equivalent and relevant compensation experience
- CCP required or willingness to obtain within 1-2 years of entering the position
- PHR, SHRM-CP preferred
- 6 years of compensation experience required, preferably in a multi-state environment. Experience with variable pay plans, budget and structure activities required. SPM software experience highly preferred
- 3 years of HR/Finance Analytics
- Internal Penske field experience is a plus
- Subject matter expert for compensation practices and in-depth understanding of SPM system functionality. Sales Compensation plan design preferred.
- Knowledge of compensation systems, preferably Oracle, MarketPay, and Varicent, Xactly.
- Advanced Excel skills required, Access and PowerPoint preferred.
- High level of written and verbal communication skills accomplished in a clear, consistent manner.
- Customer centric mindset – providing a high level of service to HR business partners and operators.
- Ability to work on multiple projects, both team and individual.
- Presentation skills, in-person and over WebEx, to educate others on compensation principles or train on compensation systems
- Ability to create/recommend solutions that are compliant/within guidelines and support the goals/needs of the business.
- Provide compensation consultation and/or be influential to all levels of management.
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
- Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required.
