Role:
The Data Engineering Manager provides financial services of superior quality and convenience through ensuring the Data Engineers are providing the ultimate member and employee experience by monitoring the day-to-day operations of the department and guiding the team. Supports the design and creation of metadata, database architecture and data repositories, as well as spearheads data warehouse initiatives and manages data analytics projects. Performs data mining and analysis from our core application server and other application servers. Analyzes business intelligence data, creates custom scripts as needed to facilitate efficient operations for the core application server. This position acts as a liaison between IT and other departments and collaborates with internal team members to uncover business information needs, provide reports, and identify system requirements.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Works with business units to gather requirements for reporting analytics needs and produces tailor-made reports to meet these needs.

Acquires data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems in order to provide accurate, instructive reporting for all business units in order to facilitate deep understanding of our member relationships.

Uses scripting languages such as Java, Javascript, R, Python, and SQL to automate data exchange between systems and repetitive tasks.

Supports Data Engineer by accepting unresolved complex inquires or projects and works directly with employees, other IT staff or vendors to research and explore potential solutions to provide alternatives within company policy. Follows escalation process to direct employee to appropriate team member as needed.

Acts as primary point of contact for vendors having to do with data collection, curation, modeling, validation, and presentation.

Ensures compliance with data governance and data security regulations and policies.

Collaborates with multiple departments to prepare, review and submit standard reports, monitor performance errors, and review process and service efficiencies. Communicates company information and collaborative efforts with staff.

Oversees the day-to-day operations of the department through monitoring and tracking daily functions that ensure staff are making appropriate decisions and operating within established credit union policies, procedures and applicable compliance regulations. Maintains clear channels of communication with Chief Information Officer and other staff to facilitate efficient working environment.

Identifies, makes recommendations, and collaborates with the Chief Information Officer on procedures, techniques, and standards to implement new and/or improved ideas to increase effectiveness, service sensitivity, and productivity of the department

Oversees department training of current and new employees to ensure they are confident in job functions. Arranges needed trainings to overcome knowledge gaps and coordinates cross-department training.

Responsible for hiring, assessing performance, coaching and developing employees in adherence to HR policies and employment law. Ensure appropriate staffing and adherence to policy.

Contributes to efficient Credit Union operations by performing other job-related duties as assigned and maintains knowledge of all Credit Union products, services, and promotions.


Knowledge and Skills:


Experience:
Eight to ten years of similar or related experience.

Education: (1) A bachelor’s degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor’s degree (e.g. information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes and/or seasonal brightness through windows. This position may involve periodic stressful conditions. The Credit Union’s business days are Monday through Saturday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; however, this position may occasionally require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and to include evening/weekend hours. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
