Job Summary
The Business Analyst reports to the Information Technology Executive Financial and Administrative Officer. Responsible for budget development and analysis for IT operating and projects budgets; develops service cost models, evaluates data trends and provides clear and accurate financial data to IT Executive Financial and Administrative Officer. Ensures the accuracy of the organization’s accounting and budget records; provides timely submission of financial and managerial reports that accurately reflect the position of the organization.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for budget development and expenditure analysis for IT funds; prepares budget forecasts and analysis of budget trends through the use of queries, spreadsheets, databases and other reporting tools for trend analysis and forecasts.
- Reviews and analyzes monthly financial statements and reports to explain budget variances and identifies concerns and discrepancies that need to be addressed.
- Suggests cost-effective ways and recommends business process improvements to meet budget goals and increase efficiency.
- Creates service level agreement cost models and service center cost models.
- Collects, interprets and analyzes internal and external financial and organizational data; develops reports, models scenarios, calculates projections, and provides information to support strategic decisions for IT.
- Prepares budget transfers and journal entries.
Other Functions
- Writes and designs financial reports for management needs and presents financial information to a non-financial audience.
- Handles sensitive materials, documentation and situations with complete confidentiality.
- Establishes and maintains productive relationships with a full range of personnel that reflects a strong commitment to customer service and a respect for a diverse campus community.
- Undertakes special projects or other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of progressive work experience.
- Demonstrated experience with relational database systems and related software used to create financial reports.
- Experience with enterprise resource management systems.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Experience developing service cost models.
- Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally to leadership and colleagues.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word).
Preferred Qualifications
Budget experience working in public higher education environment or similar organizations.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
Typical office environment.
Work Schedule
Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours.
